A Kick in the Teeth is Good for Some
Garance Doré posted a photo of Florence from the band, Florence and the Machine and it reminded me of how punchy (pun intended) and good their single, "Kiss with a Fist" is. The video for the song blows, but this live version is good. Prepare to have the song stuck in your head. I think the loop sounds like some sort of nursery rhyme or something familiar I can't quite place.
Bigote
Aside from the Spanish word for mustache, bigote, being my favorite false cognate, I really love the "La Souvarov". It's like the monocle of facial hair.

Obama needs to explain to the country what this will cost us in real terms -- however many billions a day in Iraq and what that could buy, repair, fix, and allow in human terms -- ask us if can we afford it, and Obama must -- to use imagery the neocons can understand -- knock them down, put his boots on their throats, and never let up.

Steel Bars and Human Forms
The other day in class we discussed Antony Gormley and his steel sculptures of the human form and their relation to sight/measurement tactics of figure drawing. I find his sculptures compelling and beautiful in such a lonely way. Perhaps it's just the nature of metal to feel cold. I wonder if the sculptures were formed of wood, if I'd feel differently.
Don't Be Scared of Frightened Rabbit
Frightened Rabbit is a Scottish band that has lined up as support for Death Cab for Cutie's tour. I'm such a sucker for simple earnest pop music.
Local radio station KRCL played the song "Good Arms vs Bad Arms" this morning and it put me in a good mood. I may have heard incorrectly, but I think there is a line in the song that inispired a poem for me to write. You'll see it soon on my other blog, Good Writtens (where friends and I write things).
September 13: My Old Apartment
For old times' sake, I should make a regular visit across the hall to my old apartment for sexie time! Peter and Tyler and I finally saw The Dark Knight. It was pretty tough explaining to Solo why dogs aren't allowed in theaters; mostly because I didn't have a good answer for her.

Girl Talk
Oh how I loathe this woman. Sarah Palin is so obviously the wrong woman for the job, it makes my stomach turn into knots. I thought I've been getting a cold over the past couple of days, and now I'm starting to think it's really just Sarah Palin. Thank you to the Browntown Lowdown. Here's Gloria Steinem's opinion piece in the LA Times. Here's an excerpt:
"Palin's value to those patriarchs is clear: She opposes just about every issue that women support by a majority or plurality. She believes that creationism should be taught in public schools but disbelieves global warming; she opposes gun control but supports government control of women's wombs; she opposes stem cell research but approves "abstinence-only" programs, which increase unwanted births, sexually transmitted diseases and abortions; she tried to use taxpayers' millions for a state program to shoot wolves from the air but didn't spend enough money to fix a state school system with the lowest high-school graduation rate in the nation; she runs with a candidate who opposes the Fair Pay Act but supports $500 million in subsidies for a natural gas pipeline across Alaska; she supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve, though even McCain has opted for the lesser evil of offshore drilling."
